LOWER MATECUMBE KEY, FLORIDA, 2017:The work shown here was completed in a three-day workshop entitled, Southeast Florida Regional Compact on Climate Change: Resilient Redesign III. Our team was tasked with finding short and long term solutions for the impacts of projected sea level rise in Lower Matecumbe Key.Our proposal elevated the height of US-1 and added commercial uses along the corridor to help offset the costs through increased tax base.An existing, undeveloped, collection of land-filled parcels, known as Pamalee, were planned during the workshop to accommodate a housing typology with buoyant foundation systems, able to rise and fall with the tide, or with the slow rise ofwater levels associated with climate change.
