The Center for Urban and Community Design (CUCD) was founded in 1992 in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew with the mission of fostering a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to create and strengthen resilient communities. We seek to integrate research, teaching, and service, encouraging multidisciplinary thought and action that has an impact in the communities we serve.
As a joint initiative of the University of Miami Climate Institute and School of Architecture, we collaborate with civic, nonprofit, and academic leaders throughout the region to center community-led approaches to resilience planning, design, and research.
“Resilience in South Florida depends not only on thoughtful planning and design, but on strong coalitions and community-led processes that align public, private, and civic partners around proactive responses to the many pressures facing our region.”
